Karate isn't just about throwing punches or executing kicks with precision—it's a timeless art deeply rooted in tradition, discipline, and self-discovery; it's a way of life. Ever even wondered what does the word "Karate" even means? Yea, well "kara" meaning "empty" and "te" meaning "hand", so yes its basically your hand. As we know Karate is a Japanese Martial art that formed in island of Okinawa, Japan. It was made out of necessity by a Japanese Doctor from there called Funakoshi Gichin, to protect his family, which is the he main Karate type؛ Shotokan. Then it was developed by Okinawan peasants to defend themselves against armed invaders at that time, resulting in other types or called school of Karate like Wado-ryu, Shito-ryu, and Goju-ryu.
There are 2 main principles for karate:
1) Kihon (Basics): They are important techniques that form the foundation of karate practice. These include punches, kicks, blocks, stances, and strikes, which are drilled repetitively to develop muscle memory and technique.
2) Kata (Forms): Kata are prearranged sequences of movements that simulate fighting scenarios against imaginary opponents.
As young women, we face a myriad of challenges and uncertainties, but karate equips us with the tools to navigate them with confidence and grace. It instills within us a sense of empowerment, reminding us of our inherent strength and resilience.
